21 August 2021: I don’t feel like writing today

So, you want to know the date for the signing of the deeds. I know you do. It’s not today as today is Saturday. Today is all about recharging again. Recharging us. Recharging the computers, the chargers, the phones, anything with a plug. Staying out of the heat and just enduring it.

It is really hot, but I am not complaining. The breeze is hot but at least there is a breeze. I go for a shave and shower in the middle of the day and come back refreshed. Kimberley looks pretty warm and by 4pm we have packed everything up and decide to go to Idanha-a-Nova which is 30 minutes away.

This gives us both some time on the journey, to get our water levels up and use the aircon. I prefer driving with the window open rather than using the aircon, but every now and again we give ourselves a half hour blast. It reminds us of England but without the rain. Now I used to think that 50 words for rain was a lot until I realised that there are over 200 in the Hawaiian language. You do however need to love rain in Britain, and I do. I also love sun however, so the thought of a guaranteed summer as well as rain in the winter sounds pretty good.

We arrive in Idanha and head to our favourite café opposite the town hall. Idanha on the weekend is truly quiet. In fact, most of rural Portugal is. Long slow weekends are something to look forward to. So, I am going to.

Whilst waiting for our toasties to arrive, Kimberley and I start discussing places we have not yet visited in the area. Top of the list is taking the long uphill stroll right to the top of our home mountain, Monsanto. We have heard so much about it and can see its rugged outline from our home at CasaBo.

To take full advantage of Kimberley’s prowess with all things creative we decide it would be lovely to get going early. This means a 5.15am alarm call and to be on the road by 6.15am. Ouch. Well it needs doing and if you try and do these tough walks at 10am, you’re more likely to get heatstroke.

The decision is made.  We’re getting up before sunrise, and we celebrate with an ice cream. Any excuse.

Today’s post is all about being consistent. The truth is today I didn’t want to write. Some days you do not want to do stuff. Not a lot happened, and when that is the case often my preference would be to read a good book and go to sleep.

What I know about myself is that I can’t afford to miss a day. If I do that, I just won’t bother with the next day and probably the next. Writing every day is tough though.  Doing anything every day can be tough, particularly when it is self-motivated. No boss on your back.

So, the key today is even when you don’t feel like it, make sure you take your baby step. It is in fact most crucial to take action when you are not feeling it. Remember nothing can resist consistent action multiplied by time. So here we are at the end of today’s baby step.  I’ll be back refreshed tomorrow.
