Electricity at last!

WE HAVE ELECTRICITY whoop whoop! And you know what that means… I no longer have to sport the ‘Monica’ look as my hairdryer works now! Just after 10.30am the electricians turned up and within a few minutes, it was all switched on. We connected Tut up and switched the hairdryer on… but nothing happened. Undeterred, Phil set about testing various things and after about another 30 minutes, I heard shouts of glee from the electricity shed as he’d figured out the switch that needed flicking on. We take power for granted, until we don’t have it. At some point we will also have solar panels as an alternative, but for now we have one source of power!

We spent another couple of hours redrawing the house plans and re-laying string to mark out the areas on the ground. Doing it that way really helps with picturing the elements we want to include. It’s important to us to have lots of light in the living area, to maintain the uninterrupted and spectacular views as much as we can, to have space to live outside when it’s warm enough, which is at least 8 months of the year, and to incorporate as much of the natural features like the granite rock. The build starts soon!

We only had one heavy downpour today for about 20 minutes, but the rest of the day was glorious and perfect for working outdoors. We went for a walk to see some German neighbours, Bernd and Ellen, about 5 minutes away and to deliver some Scottish shortbread. Bernd had come up to our place while we were in the UK and watered a Morning Glory plant we had growing which was so kind of him.

Dinner was spaghetti bolognaise. We like cooking in Tut even though we don’t have an oven so most meals are made on the two-ring hob. We have one kitchen cupboard (for crockery, cutlery, pans and food) so everything in it has to really be worth the space it takes up. Our pans have detachable handles which are a huge space saving. When we decided to live in our van full time and travel, we didn’t want to feel like we were always eating off picnic plates so we bought some lovely proper crockery and cutlery which feels more like home.

That’s all for today! Good night!
